In today’s blog post, I have five Spanish vocabulary words that you may or may not know.
FIVE SPANISH VOCABULARY WORDS
1. a) Resaltar – to highlight1. b) Resaltador – Highlighter
Yo uso un resaltador amarillo para resaltar las palabras importantes.
I use a yellow highlighter to highlight the important words.
2. Diluvio – flood
En la biblia hubo un diluvio.
In the bible there was a flood.
3. Saltamonte – grasshopper, but literally “mountain
hopper”
Hay muchos saltamontes en mi jardín.
There are a lot of grasshoppers in my garden.
4. Grillo – cricket
By the way, in Colombia a woman who dates men for their money is called a “grilla.” They are called “grillas” because they will hop from one man to another if the latter has money.
5. mantis religiosa – praying mantis
Cuando yo era pequeno tenía un tarántula que comió un grillo y un mantis religiosa.
When I was little I had a tarantula that ate a cricket and a praying mantis.
This is actually true. When I was a kid I really had a pet tarantula. I used to feed him “grillos” (crickets) and once he ate a “mantis religiosa” (praying mantis).
