Recently, I recorded some podcasts with a Spanish instructor from Colombia. During the podcast she mentioned several interesting Spanish words that I want to share with you. Here’s are some of the words that she mentioned during the recording of the podcast:
How To Say Hut In Spanish
Tugurio – hut
Ese hombre es muy pobre y vive en un tugurio. (That man is very poor and he lives in a hut.)
Some people in Colombia must live in “tugurios” or huts, because of “pobreza” (poverty). The huts are often made of “cartón” (card board) or “tablas de madera” (wooden planks) or other cheap materials. I found a web page with a picture of “tugurios” in Colombia. Click the following link to see some “tugurios” in Colombia:
How To Say Cardboard In Spanish and How to say carton in Spanish
Cartón – cardboard, carton, cardboard box
Ahora las aceitunas se venden en cartón y no en lata. (Olives are now sold in cartons and not in cans.)
3. Vago – una persona que le gusta callejear (a person who likes to wander the streets)
“Callejear” (to wander) apparently comes from the Spanish word “calle” which means “street.” Here’s another interesting word related to “callejear” or “calle” that I have heard used many times in Colombia: callejero
Mi hermanita es muy callejera, ella nunca está en casa. (My sister is a person who likes to spend a lot of time in the streets. She is never home.)
Say, you got a nice blog article. Thanks Again.
